A New Way to Fight Corruption and Secure Progressive Wins
By Kyle Herrig
It’s rare to go more than a few days without hearing about corruption at every level of government. At every turn, the American people are being swindled – from predatory lenders ripping off working people and corporations unfairly profiting off of our public lands, to cabinet members with conflicts of interest and the flagrant corruption that has become a hallmark of our current Administration. On top of all that, we have a President under the scrutiny of an impeachment inquiry. There is an undeniable rot eating away at our democracy.
Americans who value the principles of integrity, honesty, and accountability must rise to meet this formidable challenge. That is why today, we are announcing the launch of Accountable.US – a new nonpartisan watchdog group committed to standing up for the American people by holding powerful special interests and decision-makers in government accountable.
We are bringing together three established watchdogs – Allied Progress, Restore Public Trust, and Western Values Project – to pool our talents, increase efficiency, learn from each other, and above all, maximize impact.
Allied Progress has been standing up for consumers since 2015 by holding policymakers and predatory financial institutions accountable when they try to implement economic policies that hurt American families.
Restore Public Trust launched in 2018 to expose corruption and malfeasance at the highest levels of government and to educate the public and policymakers on these important issues.
Western Values Project has worked since 2013 to hold policymakers and special interests accountable in order to protect access to public lands for all Americans.
These organizations have worked tirelessly for years to track special-interest influence and call out government officials and other decision-makers for actions that hurt the American people. In addition to supporting the work of our existing groups, Accountable.US will also run new advocacy campaigns on additional issues.
Together, we will be even more effective and impactful in identifying corruption and making sure the public understands what is at stake.
In the weeks and months ahead, we will continue to be uncompromising in our search for truth, wherever it takes us.
We hope you’ll join us.
