Accountable.US: “Trump advisor Stephen Miller spent his time in the White House vilifying immigrants, promoting racist policies that ripped families apart, and crippling our immigration system. You know you’re on the wrong side of history when you’re showered in praise from a hero of the white supremacist movement”

Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court sided with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his latest attack against immigrants by deeming Joe Biden’s reversal of President Trump’s Migrant Protection Protocols of the inhumane ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy illegal, causing the policy to go back into effect. On the heels of the news, former Trump administration official — and architect of some of the administration’s most cruel and inhumane policies — Stephen Miller congratulated the attorney general on what he deems a “victory.” In response, government watchdog Accountable.US released the following statement:

“Ken Paxton has taken the torch from one of the key architects behind twice impeached President Trump’s cruel and inhumane immigration policies,” said Kyle Herrig, president of Accountable.US. “Trump advisor Stephen Miller spent his time in the White House vilifying immigrants, promoting racist policies that ripped families apart, and crippling our immigration system. You know you’re on the wrong side of history when you’re showered with praise from a hero of the white supremacist movement.”

Stephen Miller was a top Trump aide and the chief architect behind the family separation and Muslim travel ban policies during the Trump administration. He was also behind efforts to limit legal immigration and reverse protections for DACA recipients. After leaving the Trump administration, Miller continued his war against immigrants by launching America First Legal (AFL), an effort to continue promoting his anti-immigrant policies in the post-Trump era filled with other disgraced former officials like former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Trump impeachment lawyer Ken Starr.

The pairing between Stephen Miller and Ken Paxton makes sense — the attorney general has his own history of anti-immigration efforts: Paxton led the charge all the way to the Supreme Court to overturn a program that would have allowed parents of citizens or of lawful permanent residents to apply for a program protecting them from deportation and instead providing work permits. Paxton has also sued the Biden Administration over immigration during the pandemic, the rescission of the “Remain in Mexico” Policy, the rescission of the ‘public charge’ rule, among other anti-immigration efforts.
