President Biden’s 12th Cabinet nominee, Gina Raimondo, was confirmed today no thanks to Senator Josh Hawley, who has voted against every single one of Biden’s nominees thus far

Hawley’s attempt to overthrow a democratically-held election contributed to a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, leading to multiple deaths and increased national security concerns

Washington, D.C. – Today, Accountable Senate War Room released the following statement calling out Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) for continuing his dangerous partisan games after rejecting 12 of President Biden’s Cabinet nominees:

“Senator Hawley showed no remorse after helping to incite a violent insurrection that led to at least five deaths and heightened threats to our national security, so it’s unsurprising that he continues to play into the dangerous narrative about election fraud to cater to the far-right Trump base and has rejected every single one of President Biden’s Cabinet nominees, including those in top national security roles,” said Mairead Lynn, spokesperson for Accountable Senate War Room.

“While Hawley plays ‘obstruction warrior’ on right-wing TV, President Biden and his slate of qualified Cabinet nominees are ready to continue their work for the American people and fight back against the pandemic. These 12 rejections represent just how far Hawley is willing to go to obstruct President Biden’s bold agenda that would help get Americans back on their feet from being put in place, even while his constituents are suffering and waiting on pandemic relief. It’s time Hawley acknowledges that his actions have real consequences, and that his legacy will be one of violence, obstruction, and deceit to the American people,” Lynn continued.

Senate Republicans have done everything in their power to delay, obstruct, and reject President Biden’s nominees from being confirmed, including by slow-walking the confirmation process while they remained in power during the lame-duck period. Since losing power, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell also used procedure to slow the process down, including by refusing to agree to a simple organizing resolution for weeks. Additionally, Hawley even had the gall to object to the confirmation of DHS Secretary Mayorkas — the person responsible for cleaning up the deadly insurrection that Hawley helped start.
