HuffPost: “GOP Sen. Steve Daines, who had no concerns about an anti-public lands ideologue overseeing federal land, says Rep. Deb Haaland is too ‘radical.’”

Daines, who has taken over $1.16 million from Big Oil and Gas, defended a Trump official with a history of lobbying for the sale of public lands and making disparaging comments about Indigenous communities

Accountable Senate War Room: “By opposing Haaland’s historic nomination before a confirmation hearing has even been scheduled, Daines is making it abundantly clear to Montanans that he’s fighting for special interests and big corporations in Washington.”

Washington, D.C. – In case you missed it, HuffPost shed crucial light on Senator Steve Daines’ blatantly hypocritical comments surrounding the qualifications of President Biden’s pick to lead the Department of the Interior, 35th-generation indigenous New Mexican and Congresswoman Deb Haaland.

Daines wholeheartedly supported Trump’s extreme Big Oil Interior Secretary David Bernhardt and defended the illegal acting director of the Bureau of Land Management’s history of lobbying to sell off public lands and his known racist past. Daines’ concern isn’t with “radicalism,” it’s with a fierce advocate for the American people who has carried robust conservation efforts in the House, will protect public lands, bring a much needed Native voice to the Interior, and rein in the very Big Oil special interests funding Daines and his oily allies in the Senate.

Yesterday, Accountable Senate War Room called out Daines’ rank hypocrisy on the confirmation of Representative Haaland:

“Steve Daines said the quiet part out loud when he admitted he cares more about Big Oil than he cares about protecting public lands,” said Mairead Lynn, spokesperson for Accountable Senate War Room. “Daines can’t fight for Montanans from inside the pockets of the oil and gas industry, and by opposing Haaland’s historic nomination before a confirmation hearing has even been scheduled, Daines is making it abundantly clear to Montanans that he’s fighting for special interests and big corporations in Washington.”

Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) slammed President Joe Biden’s historic pick to lead the Interior Department, Rep. Deb Haaland (D-N.M.), as a “radical” on Friday and signaled he would not only vote against her confirmation but would attempt to block her nomination from advancing.
