Washington, D.C. — Today, government watchdog Accountable.US announced that Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron has been identified as an enemy of progress due to his opposition to key issues like addressing climate change and making health care accessible for all. The group launched a new campaign, “Enemies of Progress,” outlining the potential threats that Cameron and other Republican attorneys general around the country pose to advancements that support all Americans. Accountable.US also released its first report highlighting how Cameron and others are using their positions as top law enforcement officials to defend their campaign donors, not their constituents.

“Instead of fighting for their best interests, Attorney General Cameron is spending Kentuckians’ taxpayer dollars on frivolous lawsuits against the Biden administration on behalf of his special interest donors,” said Kyle Herrig, president of Accountable.US. “As the COVID-19 crisis ravaged Kentucky, Cameron went out of his way to fight public health measures that protected people’s lives. So, it’s no surprise that Cameron has now turned his ire on popular Biden initiatives intended to improve lives and the economy. This is what irresponsibility looks like.”

This new campaign exposes some of the worst offenders who have proven to be working towards one goal in their capacity as their state’s top law enforcement official: to slow down or prevent progress on some of the country’s toughest issues. Cameron is joined by another 12 “Enemies of Progress” including the attorneys general from Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, and West Virginia. In the coming days, the effort will be amplified with paid ads in key states, including on social media and traditional media websites.

“Poll after poll shows the public supports the Biden agenda, and any obstructionist who would abuse their power to protect profits of greedy special interests is an enemy of progress,” added Herrig.

Here’s more on why Attorney General Cameron was selected as a top “Enemy of Progress”:

  • Poor Handling Of Police Brutality Cases, Racial Justice Protests: Cameron led the investigation into the botched police raid that resulted in the death of Breonna Taylor. The inquiry, which ultimately found the shooting “justified,” was criticized by the NAACP as biased. In an RNC speech later that year, Cameron referred to racial justice protesters as “anarchists” who “mindlessly tear up American cities.”

  • Threatened Public Health. As COVID-19 raged out of control in the summer of 2020, Cameron filed a lawsuit against Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear in an attempt to block COVID-19 executive orders that were intended to save lives.

  • Has Fought to Restrict Women’s Reproductive Care in Kentucky and Across the Country: Cameron has joined multiple amicus briefs supporting restricting access to reproductive care in states across the country. In Kentucky, Cameron demanded that abortions be banned during the pandemic as he believed them to be “elective procedures.” In February 2021, the Kentucky state legislature gave Cameron the authority to criminally penalize women’s health clinics “for any violation.”
