Even after criminal charges have been filed against South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg for his role in the death of a pedestrian, he retains his role as the state’s top law enforcement official

Despite bipartisan calls for his resignation, including from South Dakota’s Republican Governor Kristi Noem, the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) has been silent on this issue

Accountable.US: “Months after charges were filed against Ravnsborg, RAGA has yet to call on the disgraced attorney general to resign. The group’s continued silence on this has been deafening, and shows that RAGA would rather try to sweep the death of an innocent man under the rug than admit one of their own is not above the law”

Washington, D.C. — In light of the news that the United States military has placed a hold on the promotion of disgraced South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg, government watchdog Accountable.US is once again calling on the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) and Policy Chair Steve Marshall (R-AL) to demand Ravnsborg’s resignation.

“Months after charges were filed against Ravnsborg, RAGA has yet to call on the disgraced attorney general to resign. The group’s continued silence on this has been deafening, and shows that RAGA would rather try to sweep the death of an innocent man under the rug than admit one of their own is not above the law. RAGA and its Policy Chairman Steve Marshall must demand Ravnsborg’s immediate resignation,” said Kyle Herrig, president of Accountable.US.

Ravnsborg is facing criminal charges related to killing a man while driving “distracted” on his cell phone after a late-night Republican fundraiser. There has been strong bipartisan support for his resignation, including from Republican Governor Kristi Noem and large swaths of South Dakota law enforcement. Republican state legislators have filed for impeachment, making it unclear why RAGA would continue to support the disgraced attorney general. RAGA is Ravnsborg’s largest campaign contributor by far, having donated over $100,000 to his campaign, and his donation page remains active on RAGA’s website.
