The oil and gas industry may be willing to work with President Joe Biden on curbing methane pollution, but the state of Texas is fixing for a fight.

Two government watchdog groups, American Oversight and Accountable.US, are urging David Bernhardt’s former law firm Brownstein Hyatt and their clients not to hire the former Interior secretary. In a letter, they specifically cited Bernhardt’s defense of the Park Police’s use of tear gas to clear Lafayette Square of protestors last year so Donald Trump could hold a photo op. They also flagged an inspector general report finding that the department had intentionally withheld documents pertaining to Bernhardt from public disclosure before his confirmation hearings. “You and your colleagues should think carefully about whether you want to associate with—to entrust your brand to—someone with that reputation,” the groups wrote. A Brownstein representative did not respond to questions on Wednesday.
