South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg will face trial nearly a year after he struck and killed a pedestrian

Despite bipartisan calls for his resignation, the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) has remained silent — and has continued to support the disgraced AG on its fundraising website

Washington, D.C. — As disgraced South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg is set to stand trial for hitting and killing a man under questionable circumstances with his car nearly a year ago, government watchdog Accountable.US released the following statement:

“Jason Ravnsborg’s refusal to step down as South Dakota’s attorney general in the face of criminal charges and bipartisan calls for his ouster could be due in part to the unwavering support he’s received from the Republican Attorneys General Association, one of the key groups linked to the deadly Capitol riot,” said Kyle Herrig, president of Accountable.US. “Every day that RAGA refuses to cut ties with Ravnsborg and call for his resignation is another failure to support the laws its members are sworn to uphold. RAGA’s continued silence speaks volumes, and by refusing to demand Ravnsborg’s resignation, the group has proven that they believe one of their own is above the law.”

Ravnsborg is facing criminal charges related to killing a man while driving “distracted” on his cell phone after a late-night Republican fundraiser. There has been strong bipartisan support for his resignation, including from Republican Governor Kristi Noem and large swaths of South Dakota law enforcement. Republican state legislators have filed for impeachment, and the Army Reserves placed a hold on his military promotion, making it unclear why RAGA would continue to support the disgraced attorney general. RAGA is Ravnsborg’s largest campaign contributor by far, having donated over $100,000 to his campaign, and his donation page remains active on RAGA’s website.
