WASHINGTON, D.C. Every new week brings additional examples of the Trump administration’s epic mismanagement of the COVID-19 response — and again this week, states are paying the price.

Last Friday was the deadline for states to provide “completed payment materials” to get their money from the Coronavirus Relief Fund in a timely manner. But after doling out billions of dollars this weekend, the Treasury Department has yet to offer the additional guidelines that states like Rhode Island and Oregon are expecting for how they can use the money — potentially leaving working Americans high and dry.

“Weeks into this public health and economic crisis, American families are still struggling to get the help they need. The Trump administration’s mismanagement and incompetence are causing unacceptable delays for states that qualified for funding and need guidance to support people in their communities,” said Kyle Herrig, president of Accountable.US. “The longer the Treasury Department waits to release relief money guidelines that states are expecting, the worse the position they’re leaving millions of Americans.”
