New Executive Order Is A Corporate Polluter’s Dream

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to President Trump’s signing of an executive order that will waive bedrock environmental laws, including the National Environmental Policy Act and Endangered Species Act, Accountable.US President Kyle Herrig issued the following statement:

“With this executive order, President Trump has further surrendered control of America’s shared resources and land to industry. He has given his special interest pals carte blanche to pollute and exploit America’s public lands while the American people grapple with the pandemic and economic turmoil, and protest police brutality and racism.”

The executive order will waive long-standing environmental laws to expedite permitting and construction of mines, pipelines, and other construction projects.

The Trump administration has pushed legally questionable deregulations to America’s environmental laws throughout his presidency. Removing these environmental review processes will limit if not eliminate public awareness and participation in decisions that will impact communities across the country. The administration’s actions have resulted in a record that is categorically the worst ever for public lands.

U.S. House Natural Resources Chair Raúl M. Grijalva rightfully blasted the executive order in a statement earlier today.
