Washington, D.C. — In response to reports that the supposedly non-partisan U.S. Chamber of Commerce had been participating in ‘strategy calls’ on reconciliation with the U.S. House Republican leadership, government watchdog Accountable.US president Kyle Herrig released the following statement:

“By participating in ‘strategy calls’ with Republican leaders that vehemently want to kill the popular bipartisan infrastructure bill, the U.S. Chamber proved that all they really care about is keeping big corporations from paying their fair share. It’s clear the Chamber will do anything to help industries that exploit tax loopholes and consumers alike to continue to dodge their responsibility — even if it means working closely with lawmakers determined to derail bipartisan efforts to rebuild roads, bridges, and broadband. When it comes down to it, it’s obvious the U.S. Chamber would rather choose to do nothing on both infrastructure and reconciliation — to the detriment of working people — than see billion-dollar corporations contribute towards an economy that works for everyone.
