As Millions Of Americans File For Unemployment, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Announces Month-Long Vacation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning, jobless claims skyrocketed by over 3 million people unemployed further demonstrating that the coronavirus crisis is devastating workers across the country. After passing a flawed relief bill late last night, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced a month-long vacation from congressional business, just as the economic damage of COVID-19 and the mismanaged response is fully coming into focus. In response, Derek Martin, spokesperson for Accountable.US, said:

“American workers want to see leadership in action during this crisis, but instead they got Mitch McConnell and his month-long Senate vacation. If the Majority Leader thinks a $1200 check and a $500 billion corporate bailout fund will make this all go away, he is out of touch with the reality faced by hard-working Americans across the country. The Senate should cancel its one month holiday and keep working to make sure this public health crisis doesn’t become another Great Depression.”
